Fair Maiden

Cat. #0164 (MFH #181) - As sung by Odis Bird, Marshall, Arkansas on August 6, 1958

VERSE 1
I loved a fair maiden
Who lived on th plain
She helped me herd cattle
Thru sunshine and rain

VERSE 2
She helped me herd cattle
All thru th windup
She helped me drank liquor
Thru a cold bitter cup

VERSE 3
I taught th fair maiden
Th cowboys command
But to hold a six shooter
In each of her hands

VERSE 4
We moved to a canyon
In th fall of th year
Just packed in to stay there
An' herd some fat steers

VERSE 5
But th Indons rushed on us
At stamp a midnight
She sprung from her warm bed
Were battles to fight

VERSE 6
She sprung from her warm bed
With a gun in each hand
Says, come you brave cowboys
We'll whoop th whole band

VERSE 7
A spray us with lightning
Like torrdus of rain
And came a bullet
Then splattered her brain
