I'm Crumbling At Th Corners

Cat. #0518 (MFH #108) - As sung by Mr. Doney Hammontree, Farmington, Arkansas on July 5, 1960

VERSE 1
I'm crumblin' at th corners
And I sadly need repair
If I'm t' stay here longer
Mids this mondon wear an' tear

VERSE 2
I've got th doctors tinkerin' on
Th fabric of my bein'
They report th salvage job
Not one their guarnteen'

VERSE 3
My hearin's awful faulty
An' my gums are badly shrunk
My denture keeps a slipin'
An' my mastacation punk

VERSE 4
I sense it in my chawin'
An' much care I have t' take
While doing a rip-sawing
On a juicy hunk of steak

VERSE 5
I'm crumblin' at th corners
An' my hairs not much t' comb
By ones an' twos an' threes an' fours
It's moultin' from my dome

VERSE 6
I'm wrinkled an' my eyes are pouched
An' liver spots, they flick
My skinny hands an I've aquired
A turkey gobbler neck

VERSE 7
My memories slipping more an' more
An' of't I have t' have to stop
An' wonder what I aim to do
Or is it all a flop

VERSE 8
I get my socks on wrong side out
I guess I will go smather
With tooth paste on my shavin' brush
An' fuss when it won't lather

VERSE 9
An' talkin' to myself
But I don't mind that anymore
But when you got to listen to
It soon becomes a bore

VERSE 10
It gets me when I go t' bed
I ty t' think dog-rot-it
Is my prayer already said
Or have I clear forgot it

VERSE 11
I'm crumblin' at th corners
I'm old an' grizzly rooster
I cackle 'stead of crowin'
An' cain't strut it like I uster

VERSE 12
My backbone nerve is plagued
Because my vertebrates inpinges
An' all th oils is done burned up
That lubercates my hinges

VERSE 13
I have t' brace my arches
Cause like Londons bridge, their fallin'
An'all my locomotion
It's not far removed from crawlin'

VERSE 14
I guess my next decrepiencies
Will be a nice wheel-chair
So I can sit out in th sun
An' breath th pleasant air

VERSE 15
An' listen to th little birds
An' to the gardeners gardenin'
An' all th little noise'es that
My arteries made while hardenin'

VERSE 16
But soon I'll move into a house
That won't require repair
If all reports are true
T'will be a crumble proof affair

VERSE 17
I hope you will not envy me
This edifice an' how
That I can read my title clear
It's in escrow, right now
