Drunkard's Hell

Cat. #0848 (MFH #163) - As sung by Ollie Gilbert, Mountain View, Arkansas on August 27, 1969

VERSE 1
I went on, got there at last
Or take a social glass
Ever time I stirred it well
I thought about th drunkard's Hell

VERSE 2
I dashed it out an' left th place
There to seek redeem'in grace
On my knees to Jesus then
Poured out my soul in umble prayer

VERSE 3
I went home to change my life
To see my own denieded wife
I found 'er weeping o'er th bed
Because our infant babe was dead

VERSE 4
I told 'er not to mourn ner weep
Because our babe has fled away
To live with Christ till in this day

VERSE 5
I picked 'er up, but I laid 'er down
She was so weak she couldn't stand
I laid 'er down and prayed a prayer
That God would bless an' save us there
