Cat. #0038 (MFH #173) - As sung by Virgil Lance, Mountain Home, Arkansas on February 18, 1958
VERSE 1
One evening, so late as I rambled
Down by a cold pasture of stream
I set down on a bed of roses
An' gently fell into a dream
VERSE 2
I dreamed that I spied a fair lady
Whose equals, I n'er saw before
As she sighed from th wrongs of her country
As she strayed along Erins green shore
VERSE 3
Her cheeks were like bloomin' red roses
In th midst of a cold winter night
And her eyes were two sparkling diamonds
And her teeth were of ivory, so white
VERSE 4
She was dressed in the richest attire
And green was th mantle, she wore
Bound round her with roses an' shamrocks
That grew along Erins green shore
VERSE 5
No sooner than I'd embraced this fair damsel
Saying, my dear, please tell me your name
In this land sir, I fear you are a stranger
Or you would not have asked me th same
VERSE 6
I'm th daughter of Daniel O'Connor
Who so lately, from England, sailed o'er
An' I came to awaken my brethen
That slumber along Erins green shore
VERSE 7
In transports of joy I awoken
An' I found that it was but a dream
This beautiful damsel fled from me
I long to be slumbering again
