Sweet Jane

Cat. #0357 (MFH #345) - As sung by Mrs. Lizzie Maguire, Fayetteville, Arkansas on June 23, 1959

VERSE 1
Farewell sweet Jane, for I must start
Across th foaming sea
My trunk is now on Johnsons bar
With all my company

VERSE 2
It's do not weep, sweet lovely Jane
Come dry those tearful eyes
I will return to you again
Unless, your Willie dies

VERSE 3
You see th sails upon th bar
Their almost ready now
Give one sweet kiss, my lovely Jane
It's mighty deep to plow

VERSE 4
She wet my lips with flowing tears
And I did kiss her hand
Remember my sweet Willa dear
When in some foreign land

VERSE 5
My bosom felt th feeling vent
I n'er had felt before
I got on board with Johnson's men
And I left my native shore

VERSE 6
For seven weeks we sailed along
Upon th mighty deep
One night I thought we all were lost
Our captain, was asleep

VERSE 7
So, early next morning at th break of day
We landed on th shore
And to th mines, did march away
To hunt th golden ore

VERSE 8
We loaded down our trunks with gold
And then I thought of Jane
With anxious thoughts, did homeward ride
For we were 'cross th plains

VERSE 9
We traveled on for several weeks
Till we got to 'er Fathers door
Th crowd did look so very neat
While stnading on th shore

VERSE 10
I saw a crowd of lovely girls
Come marching to th ship
I saw sweet Jane, with all her curls
Then I begin to skip

VERSE 11
I flew and caught her on th walk
Both hearts were filled with charm
We were so full we could not talk
I caught her in my arms

VERSE 12
Th parson read th marriage vow
That bound us both for life
Now, Jane is mine, without a doubt
A kind and loving wife
