Cat. #1128 (MFH #783) - As sung by Ollie Gilbert, Mountain View, Arkansas on April 9, 1970
VERSE 1
It's a sad but true story
From th Bible h'it came
It tells us how Judas
Sold th Saviour in shame
VERSE 2
He planned with th Council
Of th High Priest, that day
Thirty pieces of silver
Was th price they did pay
VERSE 3
Thrity pieces of silver
Thirty shackles of shame
Was th price paid for Jesus
On th cross he was slain
VERSE 4
Tried an' forsaken
No love unclaimed
In anger they pierced him
But he died not in vain
VERSE 5
Was there, on th hillside
Th multytude came
And found our dear Saviour
An' took him away
VERSE 6
They smote an' they mocked him
Put thorns 'round his head
An' his raiments of purple
Shown blood stains of red
VERSE 7
Far off't in th mountin'
With his face to th sun
Judy prayed for mercy
For what he had done
VERSE 8
He give back th silver
For his heart was filled with strife
An' there on th mountin'
He took his own life
