Little Blossom

Cat. #1482 (MFH #385) - As sung by Laura Arthur, Springfield, Missouri on November 2, 1972

VERSE 1
O dear, I'm so tired and so lonely
I wonder why Mamma don't come
She told me to go to sleep early
An' when I woke up she'd be home

VERSE 2
I'll guess I'll go out an' find Daddy
I'm afraid he has stopped at th store
It's a great pretty store full of bottles
An' I wish he wouldn't go there no more

VERSE 3
Out into th night went th baby
Her little heart beating with fright
Till th little girl came to th mansion
All shinning an' bright with lights

VERSE 4
Th little hand pushed th door open
Tho' her touch was as light as a breath
Her little feet entered th portals
That leads to ruin an' death

VERSE 5
O, Daddy, she cried as she reached him
I'm so glad I found you here
I was so sad an' so lonely
While waiting for Mamma to come

VERSE 6
A moment th blurred eyes gazed wildly
Down into th face, sweet an' fair
An' then as th demon possessed him
He grasped at th back of a chair

VERSE 7
A moment, a second, t'was over
An' th work of a demon complete
An' poor little, innocent Blossom
Lay quivering an' crushed at his feet

VERSE 8
Then quick as a light came his reason
An' showed him th deed he had done
With a cry for th Devil to pity
He fell by th quivering form

VERSE 9
Then in came th law, so majestic
An' said, with his life he must pay
No one but a fiend or a mad man
Could murder a child in that way

VERSE 10
But th man who had sold him th poison
An' made him a demon of Hell
He must be loved an' respected
For he had license to sell

VERSE 11
God pity th woman an' children
Who are under th duren of rum
An' hasten th day, when against it
Neither heart, voice or man shall be done
