Will the Weaver

Cat. #0028 (MFH #698) - As sung by Fred High, High, Arkansas on February 12, 1958

VERSE 1
Say man, I come by your house
An' I saw Will th weaver
And your wife sticking close together
They went in at th door
And I saw no more

VERSE 2
I come home, like worldly wonder
Rapping at th door like thunder
Will, he said, who is that?
It's my husband, you must hide

VERSE 3
Will th weaver clumb up th chimney
And I come in and looked all around
Nothing of Will th weaver, could be found

VERSE 4
I looked up th chimney
And there that wretched soul
Set straddle of th hubber pole

VERSE 5
Little was thought, but nothin' spoke
Says I, I'll tan your hide with smoke
Building me up a rowsing fire
Just to suit my own desire

VERSE 6
Will, he bekin to hark an' sneeze
And in that place he found no ease
Like worldly wise, I brought him down
And sent him home with two black eyes
