The Taylor Boys

Cat. #0346 (MFH #624) - As sung by Mrs. Pearl Brewer, Pocahontas, Arkansas on May 27, 1959

VERSE 1
Way back in my ole country
There lived a family poor
A wife and a husband
Two children 'round th door
They were sending them to prison
For stealing they had done
I know just how it happened
For I'm their only son

VERSE 2
It was snowing very hard
I will never forget that day
When someone whispered softly,
They could run away
My Mother said, they'll kill us
Father he said, no
We bundled up our budget
Starting off to go
We traveled very nice
Till we came to th Taylors farm
And there th murder was ended
They did'nt give alarm

VERSE 3
I saw them kill poor Papa
Poor Mamma and sister too
They said, they were going to kill me
And that was all I knew

VERSE 4
They hauled them to th straw yard
To bury them side by side
And there th sheriff was waiting
And God was by his side
