Pleading there in vain
Saying, son, o son, you had better take advice
For you'll never see your Mother any more

What was best, I did not know
Saying, I must ramble over this wide world
Let th love came and go as it may

One day I was laying upon my bedside
So sick I could not go
I received a letter from my ole cottage home
It was from my sister, so dear

I read it over, line by line
With tears flowing down my cheeks
Saying, th very last words that your dear old Mother said
Was, I want'a see my rambling boy
VERSE 6
As soon as I got well enough to go
I made my way back home
I saw my sister, standing in th door
