White Rose

Cat. #0408 (MFH #695) - As sung by Mrs. Elsie Jones, Summers, Arkansas on September 23, 1959

VERSE 1
O, it was one day
In th early part of May
We sit on the ole river bank
It was on th mossy bank
Where we set side by side
An' watched beautiful stream beneath our feet

VERSE 2
An', you gave me a rose
A little white rose
An' asked me to wear it for you
Well, I have that rose yet
An' I never shall forget
To wear it as long as you are true

VERSE 3
They found him next
In a clear flowing stream
Where he throwed himself to drown
With that rose between his lips
As if it seem to say,
I want t' wear that rose in my crown
