Cat. #0050 (MFH #727) - As sung by Mrs. Goldie Schott, Mondell, Arkansas on April 3, 1958
VERSE 1
Young Charlottie lived on th mountain side
In a wild and lonely spot
There were no dwell for three miles wide
Except her Fathers cot
VERSE 2
On yet they many a winter night
Young swans were gathered there
For 'er Father kept a social board
An' she was very fair
VERSE 3
One New Years eve, as th sun went down
Fer looking worshful-li
Out from th frosty window pane
Says, the merry slieghs dash by
VERSE 4
At th village, fifteen miles away
Were to be a ball that night
And thru the air was piercing cold
Her heart was warm and light
VERSE 5
O, daughter dear, the Mother cried,
This blanket 'round you fold
For it tis a dreadful night abroad
You'll get your death of cold
VERSE 6
O ney, o ney, young Charlottie cried,
As she laughed like a gipsy queen
To ride in a blanket, muffled up
I never would be seen
VERSE 7
My silken cloak is quite enough
You know it's lined throughout
And there's my silken scarf
To twine my head and neck a-bout
VERSE 8
Her bonnet and her gloves, went on
And she jumped into th sleigh
Swiftly they spread o'er th mountain side
And o'er the hills away
VERSE 9
Such a dreadful night, I never saw
My rings I scarce can hold
Goldie says, she went as far as she could.
