Cat. #0530 (MFH #377) - As sung by Lula Davis, Fayetteville, Arkansas on July 5, 1960
VERSE 1
Th was a little family
Lived up in Beth-a-ney
Two sisters an' a brother
Composed this family
VERSE 2
With prayers an' with singing
Like angels in th sky
Both mornings and of evenings
They would raise their voices high
VERSE 3
It's while they they were so happy
So, poor, so good, an' kind
Their brother was afflicted
An' lain upon his bed
VERSE 4
Poor Martha an' her sister
Looked to th Lord an' cried
But still he grew no better
But lingered on an' died
VERSE 5
Th Jews they came to assist them
Put Lazurus in th tomb
They came there for t' comfort
An' drive away th gloom
VERSE 6
When Jesus heard those tidings
Far in a distance land
So swiftly he did travel
To jine this lonely band
VERSE 7
When Martha saw him coming
She met him on his way
She told him how her brother
Had died an' passed away
VERSE 8
He blessed her an' he cheered her
He told her not to weep
For in him was th power
To wake him from his sleep
VERSE 9
When Mary saw him coming
She ran an' met him too
An' by his side a weeping
Rehashed th tale of woe
VERSE 10
When Jesus saw her weeping
He fell a weeping too
He wept until she showed him
Poor Lazarus in th tomb
VERSE 11
He rolled away th covers
An' looked upn th grave
He prayed unto his Father
His loving friend to raise
VERSE 12
Lazarus, he arose
Came from th gloomy mound
With full strength an' vigor
He walked upon th ground
VERSE 13
An' if we'd always love Jesus
An' do His holy will
Like Martha an' like Mary
He would always use us well
VERSE 14
From death He would release us
An' take us to th sky
To reign with Him forever
Where pleasures never die
