There was a wealthi merchant
In London, he did dwell
He had an onli daughter
An' th truth to you I'll tell

Her wedding day being very nigh
She went unto her bed
Th thoughts of her young farmer
Arose so in her head

So, early next morning
This fair maid arose
She dressed herself up in
A suit of mens clothes

Both, waistcoat an' bretches
This fair maid put on
An' now she's gone a hunting
With her dogs an' her gun

She hunted 'round th field
An' often did she fire
But nothing did she kill

At length the young farmer
Stepped into th field

O, were you at th wedding
This fair maid, did say
O, were you at th wedding
To give your bride away

O no, I was'nt there
For I could not give her away

This maid, being pleased
With th farmer, so bold
She drew off her glove
That was broidered with gold
