Cat. #1349 (MFH #45) - As sung by James Center, Grimm, Arkansas on July 11, 1969
VERSE 1
They tell me Father, that tonight
You'll wed another bride
That you will clasp her in your arms
Where my dear Mother died
VERSE 2
That she will lean her graceful head
Upon your loving breast
Where she who now lies down in death
Lifes last hours did rest
VERSE 3
They say her name is Mary too
Th name my Mother bore
An' Father, is she kind an' true
Like th one you loved before
VERSE 4
And is her step so soft an' low
Her voice so sweet an' mild
An' Father will she love me to
Your blind and helpless child
VERSE 5
Please Father, do not bid me come
To meet your new made bride
I could not meet her in th room
Where my dear, dear Mother died
VERSE 6
Her pictures hanging on th wall
Her books are lying there
And there's th harp her fingers touched
An' there's her vacant chair
VERSE 7
Th chair whereby I used to kneel
To say my evening prayer
Dear Father, it would break my heart
I could not meet her there
VERSE 8
And when I cry myself to sleep
As I of't time do now
Then to her he placed a kiss
Upon my throbbing brow
VERSE 9
Come let us kneel down by my bed
An' to our Saviour pray
That's God's right hand will lead you thru
Life's long weary way
VERSE 10
Th prayers were offered, then a song
I'm weary now, she said
Her Father raised her in his arms
And laid her on th bed
VERSE 11
An' as he turned to leave th room
One joyful cry was give
He turned to catch th last sweet smile
His blind child was in Heav'n
VERSE 12
They laid her by her Mother's side
An' raised a marble fair
On it inscribed th simple words
There'll be no blind ones there
